Vintage Industrial Revolution Treasury

Cindy over at retrochalet made this super tough and rusty Industrial Treasury of all Vintage Etsy Society Members and she was sweet enough to include our Rain King Model D sprinkler. Industrial is so in right now. If you were to pick up any decorating magazine I can almost 99% guarantee you that they have some kind of vintage industrial item in there.  I have been swooning lately over giant industrial letters, and industrial office supplies. Maybe if I got a real heavy industrial stapler people wouldn't want to take it off my desk. Hmmm...

Go and check out Cindy's shop  and  blog .  And stop over at the treasury to see all the other goodies.

Are you ready for some retro football?

After an amazing weekend of exciting football (Go Pack Go), I have been inspired to lookup and tell a bit of the history of the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears.  The rivalry began with their first meeting on November 27, 1921 and has grown to be the largest rivalry in the NFL with 182 meetings, a combined 21 championships (including 4 Super Bowls) and  48 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  This Sunday will be their 183rd meeting and the winner will go onto the Super Bowl.
But enough history let’s look at the vintage pictures and some of the vintage football items I've found on etsy.

The best junk I've put in my trunk

I guess the next question to answer is, What’s the best thing you found at a thrift store?  That’s a toughie but I think the purchase that knocked it out of the park happened in High School. My group of friends were very much into going over to the local Goodwill and finding ridiculous t-shirts from the 70’s and t-shirts that had ridiculous sayings on them.  That was the thing to do when we were bored, now pay attention I grew up in a small down in Wisconsin, this is what we did when we weren’t cow tipping (just kidding, we rarely did things like that).   Any who back to the task at hand, on one of our Goodwill adventures I broke off from the group and went in search of things other then t-shirts and I found this super awesome vintage Navy peacoat (as in from a  real Sailor named Kent his name is written in permanent marker inside) and this peacoat was $5 I was sold.  I bought and brought it home and my mom was like that is going to be super warm this winter (I bought it in July) and you got that at the Goodwill? (I like to think that is when I turned my mom onto Goodwill but that is another story) I started screaming out “Ya mom and it was $5!!!! How do I wash it?”  Well she told me to get it dry cleaned, now let’s remember at this point in time I was in High School and had limited funds, so what is a girl to do but call up Grandma and tell her about my fabulous purchase.  I tell her and she says, “Jadarie bring that coat over here right away it probably has bugs.  I’m taking it to the cleaners now, I’ll be in your driveway in 5 minutes.”  Low and behold grandma got it dry cleaned and I’m still wearing that Kent peacoat today, I bust it out in January because it’s the warmest coat I own.  (And for the record I’ve also just recently sold my grandma on thrift stores as forever she thought they were full of bugs.  Her and my grandpas go weekly now)

From that peacoat purchase brought a whole new fascination with thrift stores. While my friends were looking for t-shirts I would roam around and find some super awesome stuff which at that time I did not have a use for.  Fast forward 10 years later and I now can be found at various thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales (when in season in the Midwest) on a weekly basis.  I like to search for clothes, especially jackets (obviously) and things I collect like Pyrex, cameras, clocks and children’s books.

Who Are Junk in Da Trunk Girls?

Hello Peoples that have found this blog:-) We are a mother and daughter team of vintage treasure hunters. We believe in Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. What is old is always new again to someone else.  We run this shop , and we love the feeling of a good ol' treasure hunt and get super happy when we find something we truly think is special.  Sadly to us though, we by no means have any "junk" in our trunk as the hip hop songs would say, we literally just put the junk we find into the trunk of whichever vehicle we are driving.

Now I know I may have offended some of you by calling things junk but honestly to the original owner that threw it out, donated or is selling it at auction/flea market/garage sale/estate sale it was/ is  junk. They didn't want it and didn't realize someone else maybe looking for it, they just wanted to get rid of it.  That's where those of us that are interested in the old come into play.  There are some fabulous things that we have come across but aren't necessarily what we collect but we know that there is someone out there that either had one before or is collecting them now, and we feel a deep need to rescue said object from the inevitable garbage. Our shops mission is that by either looking at, or taking home, your heart is touched, and you are blessed with a sweet memory of your past.

Without further ado we bring to you the junk we are drawn too:-)

 Mom is drawn too:
Sprinklers
Watering Cans
Flower Frogs
In general garden fun
Picnic Baskets
Clocks
Globes

Daughter is drawn too:
Pyrex
Cameras
Children's Books
Owls
Cake Carriers

Now we do not necessarily want to limit ourselves on what you can expect from this blog. But some of the things we are  interested in are reusing something and making it into something else, or finding a new purpose for the object, showcasing of new inventory for the shop and a history lesson on some of the objects we have found or would like to find. Thanks for stopping by and we hope to see you around here again soon!
